March 2006
Short News: What happened in Austria and the rest of the world?
NEVERLAND CLOSED: because of some stress with the payment Michael Jackson had to close his big, famou
s Ranch. Reason: No money.
PRIZE FOR CHRISTINA STÜRMER: Austrias most famous pop/rockstar of the present got Germanyshighest music award, the ECHO. The strange thing: the category in which she won it was “singer Pop/Rock National”…
THE BAWAG SCANDALE: After speculating with shares the BAWAG, one of Austrias biggest banks (and the housebank of th ÖGB (österreichischer Gewerkschaftsbund= austrias federation of trade unions)) lost a lot of money and had debts of 2,4 billion €uros. Becuase of that the ÖGB has to sell the bank so fast as possible, that they won’t ‘die’ themselves. The biggest bank scandale in the history of Austria had happend. Over the whole year long we hear more and more unbelievebal things what had happend. ÖGB- boss Fritz Verzetnitsch leaves his place. On the 14th of December 2006 we heard, that the BAWAG was sold- to the american Private- Equity- Fonds Cerberus for 3,2 billion Euro.
PETER HANDE PROVOCATES: The austrian had an often discussed speech at the funeral of the ex- president from the former Jugoslavia, Slobodan Milosevic.
March was a month full of changes. For example in this month changes the sport from summer to winter sport. Around the 20th is always the last ski jumping- actually a ski flying, because the skijumping season stops traditionally in Planica/ Slovenia. And always one weekend before the winter season ends, the summer season starts- with the first formula 1 race, this time in Bahrain. The winner of the first race was Fernando Alonso and the winner of the last ski jumping competition was Janne Happonen (FIN), btw.
And also something very historical happend in March- i may remember you on the SIP- yeah, the Susi- Irem Prize, given in many categories to many interesting people (and ducks ;)) we had such a fantastic debut that i am sure that we will make it in 2007 again- as long Irem wants of course and of course i need you, my dear blog readers- for nominating!!

SNOW STORIES:
On the 5th of March we got ana amazingly amount of snow in our garden. It just came and we were really surprised, because IF we get a bit more snow than in other months then it’s usually January- but in this year we got it on March. My grandma said she can’t remember so much snow for 30 years.
I remember that the days after that were quite chaotic. On a Friday we went to school, but already this was difficult, because there was so much snow, that we didn’t know how to come there really. Our bus goes at 6:15 in the morning usually, but on this day it needed it till 6:45 to come (we already wanted to start to go home, but then it came.) So we had a really adventerous journey to our school already. When we were in the class then we recognized that we were not more than 10 people. on this day should be a presentation about a book of Austria during the 2nd world war in the school. We decided to stay there and watch it (we had no other chance anyway, because the snow falling got already so much, that we even were not sure if the buses home would drive later.) We just wanted to stay as less as possible, because there is a rule: when you are less than a half of the class, then you get free. So we phoned some girls who still sat in the buses to there and told them that they should drive with the same buses home again, what they also did. So we listened to this prese
ntation which was over after 2 lessons. Then our german teacher came to us and told us that the ministery of education gave us free for today. I said good bye to my friends fast and went up the 3 stairs to the HBLA, the school which my sister attended. She told me that we have the chance to come out of there with the aunt of a friend of her, which would get us from Ried. It was really no other chance for us, so i agreed and we 3, my sister, her friend Lisi and me went to find the aunt of this girl. Outside it was still snowing really fat flocks and it was quite chaotic, but the aunt found us. We went into the car and she took us out of the city. When we were driving between Ried and Andorf there was a traffic jam. A very BIG traffic jam. We were driving along there for minutes, and next to us were only standing cars. I’ve never seen that before in my life on this street. We had quite a luck, because we came out so soon. I heard that the buses later, with which we usually drive, had big problems to come into Ried and out again. I can tell you, i was so happy when i entered the door to our house finally. When i was in my mum greeted me with the words: “You know, the ministery of education already gave you free today at 7.00- but unfortunately you were already out of the house…”
But you know what? I miss this time- to see this all in chaos was funny somehow this whole day was funny. I miss the snow…

waiting and Janne Ahonen jumped. 1081,5 – I will always remember this number. I don’t know how familiar you are all with ski jumping, but this is really such a randomn. That two jumpers have the same number of points after 4 competitions (that’s 8 rounds) is already unbelievebal, but when they are the best two jumpers, then it is more than unbelievebal. Almost destiny. I can tell you, there was no better result possible. It was amazing and I think something like this will never happen again. I am looking forward to this years tournament, because there are so many guys who can get the title this time, and there is no special favourite left. I think the most favourites are Simon Amman (SUI), Andreas Küttel (SUI), Gregor Schlierenzauer (AUT), Arttu Lappi (FIN) and Anders Jacobsen (NOR). But the tournament has always own rules, like we already found out, and so it is never sure who will be on the very highest step at 6th of January 2007 in the final in Bischofshofen.
