Snow :D

While Tadej was in Toscana and got the last warm shines of the italian autumn sun, we here in Austria and some other parts of middle Europe, got snow :D And that already at the beginning of November. In the higher areas, it was snowing 15 centimeters per hour. Here in Andorf we only got some centimeters over the night, but it was really a nice feeling, when I woke up. The first thing i did was, that i looked outside the window, and really: Snow :D Whole last year we were waiting so long to get snow, and finally now it’s here. Andorf is only on 318 metres o. A. (over Adria), and so we are one of the last, who get snow, and one of the first where it melts away.
When I went to the car in the morning, there I saw already that it was raining again,
and now…

it already melt completely away ;)

but you can see on the pictures, how it had looked like today in the morning. Like sugar on the earth :)

The National day of Austria

OUR NATIONAL DAY

History
:
The first national day of Austria, was made on 12th of November 1919. It was the day, when the first Republic of Austria was called out.

During the one-party- dictatur and through the Nazi time, the national day was on 1st of May, the day of work, which was the ‘day of heroes’ during the second WW.

On May 15th, 1955, was the austrian state treaty signed, with what Austria got its neutrality. It was signed by the 4 Occupying Powers of our country (England (GB) , France, Soviet Union and USA). All of those countries had to sign it too, and additionally had to agree, that they want Austria to be free. For that they have to give documents. The last of those documents, was given on July 27th, 1955. They made another treaty, that all of the occupiers had to leave the country within 90 days. The last of those days was the 25th of October 1955.
So, the 26th of October was the first day, when Austria was completely free and neutral.
On this day, the National Council of Austria, decided for the “forever- longing neutrality”.
It holds till nowadays, and hopefully forever.

The day itself:
The politicans wanted, to celebrate the becoming free of Austria. The first time it was celebrated on 25th of October 1957, called “The day of the flag”, and it was only celebrated on schools, to remember the students, what happened in past, that they will never be able to forget, what their country was going through. The teachers had to care for an unforgetable day for their students, the school had to wear flags.

The day of the flag was moved one day behind, onto the 26th of October, because it was more important for the politicans to remember onto the ‘forever longing neutrality” than to remember onto the leaving of the pccupying powers.

In 1965 the national council was thinking on a “National day”- there were 4 dates for choosing:

  • 15th of May ===> Signing of the State treaty in 1955
  • 12th of November ===> Call out for the first Republic in 1919
  • 26th of October ===> Decidement for the “Forever- longing neutrality”
  • 27th of April ===> Proclaimation of incependence

Most of agreement got the 26th of October, and since 1967 it is officially celebrated in Austria.

Happy National Day, to all of the people living in my country, and all of the people in the world, doing and feeling as an austrian =)

26th of October- the day when Austria got it’s neutrality

For what do we have free today?

Yes, today I have a free day, and you can believe me, I am really happy about this, because there are hardly any things what i would need more than a free day. But why do I have free? Ususually there are any happenings of church (A good reason to be catholic- many free days) or there are historical reasons. In this case there are historical reasons.

In Austria it is a very funny thing. We are usually not a folk who admires history, because of that i was surprised when i read this survey in the morning:

What are Austrians proud of?

86%………………… Landscape

59%……………………….. Music

56%……………………… Cuisine

54%……………………… History

52%…………………………… Art

54% are proud of our history???? I wouldn’t know what to be proud of there. Austria was first named documentary as ‘Ostarichi’ (Empire in the east) in the year 996. Leopold von Babenberg was our emperor at this time (but Austria was very little in this time- the are where i live was not included).

From 1282 to 1918 we were emperored by the Habsburger. In this time we got bigger, tinier, bigger tinier, bigger… and finally we stayed tiny.

From 1915 to 1918 was the first world war. it started because our emperor Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie were shot in Sarajevo (they were shot by a serbian called Gavrilo Princip). So Franz Joseph decided to attack the serbians. Unfortunately Austria had helpers, and the others too, so there was a completely world war. There is a proverb about this:

2 shots, 50 million deads.

(2 shots for Franz Ferdinand and Sophie, 50 million deads because of the world war which followed)

Well, and in 1938 we joined (or: we had to join) Hitler- Germany, which started the world war in 1939, and which was till 1945.

So, the result:

900 years leaded by emperors and after that 2 world wars which we started. The first because our emperor couple was shot by a serbian nationalist (this was of course also not okay, but why did Franz Joseph start a war then???) And a completely mad austrian who called himself a german and killed more than 6 million people (mostly jews, but also Roma, Sinti,…) with his helpers and started a world war which a mass of people.

Proud?

But i think what we can proud of is the time after this. How the people built up the country and how they were able to give us the wealth which we have now. Austria is a good country, of course we have some mistakes here and there, but in general we can be proud of it. Our history is not the best, but what counts is what is now. I’m also not completely happy with this situation (for example that people like Jörg Haider Yelland Heinz- Christian Strache Yell have such a success, or this silly thing with the german- slovenian panels in Kärnten Yell - or that we have such a mass of people who are unemployed Cry). We are already good, but we still can get better, and i hope that the people in this country will work for that.

And of course we can be proud of our cuisine Tongue out mhhh, Apfelstrudel… Topfentascherl…, KaiserschmarrenSalzburger Nockerl.. YUMMY! :P

Apfelstrudel with Vanillia sauce and berries…

Salzburger Nockerl…
Kaiserschmarren…
Isn’t it a big miracle that i’m not completely fat already? :P

our landscape… ohhh, it is really wonderful- there is a reason why our national anthem starts with

Land der Berge…

land of mountains…

I love our mountains, they are sooooooooooo great for skiing

The Großglockner- 3797 metres- I already was on it, but not completely on the top

Land am Strome…

land on the river…

Oh, our blue danube (which is almost brown :P) But this means our rivers in generell, and we really have so nice rivers and lakes

The Danube, the second longest river of Europe

Land der Äcker…

land of fields…

This is a special line for our farmers i think Laughing I live in an area where a lot of fields are. Very nice, it fits to the landscape

A field of Raps (engl: seed flax)- i love these plants, even if they smell strange

Land der Dome…

land of cathedrales…

Well.. churches… lots of them :P In ever village one, and even if the village has just 3 houses, you will find a church everywhere. And i never counted the churches in cities, but i can tell you that there are even more Wink

The cathedrale in Salzburg (Salzbuger Dom), for me the most beautiful in Austria

Land der Hämmer…

land of hammers…

A line for our smiths, which we had a lot in former times, and which we still have (but not so many)- but also for the carpenters (what my dad was) and generally people who have to work with hammers

Zukunftsreich-

land of future-

Oh yeah, i hope so

Heimat bist du großer Söhne…

home are you of great sons…

And daughters? :P Okay, okay, i will not take this so word by word… how many great sons du you know? Mozart? Klimt? more? :P [I guess you know Arnold Schwarzenegger, but i will never call him a great son of ours..)- oh, but our skiers of course… Benjamin Raich, Hermann Maier, Stefan Eberharter, Karl Schranz, Toni Sailer, Renate Götschel, Michaela Dorfmeister, Marlies Schild, Anita Wachter, Annemarie Moser- Pröll,— and many, many more… ski jumpers? Anton Innauer, Andreas Goldberger, Martin Höllwarth, Thomas Morgenstern, Armin Kogler, Andreas Widhölzl, Andreas Kofler… then Markus Rogan, our fantastic swimmer, Mirna Jukic not to forget, Fabienne Nadahraia, Dominik Koll - some great footballers (yes, we really have some :P): Toni Polster, Herbert Prohaska, Ernst Happel, Hans Krankl, Josef Hickesberger (our national coach), Andreas Ivanschitz, Sanel Kuljic, Emanuel Pogatetz, Roman Wallner, Roland Linz… formula 1 drivers: Niki Lauda, Gerhard Berger, Jochen Rindt, Roland Ratzenberger, Karl Wendlinger, Christian Klien, Alexander Wurz…

okay, we have great people here :P

Volk begnaded für das Schöne…

people lucky for the beauty…

we can be really lucky what a beautiful country we have.

viel gerühmtes Österreich…

much praised Austria…

viel gerühmtes Österreich.

much praised Austria.

we really praise our country- Austrians are the 4th most patriotic people in the world Smile

Music- yeah, our music is great- and I’m NOT talking of Mozart :P I just like his Zauberflöte, this is quite cool, we already saw this as kids- musical.

Austrian art- I like some of our artists, for example Klimt. My favourite drawer is Picasso, but he is spanish… pity… :P

my personal favourite of Klimt:
The tree of life

but back to why i have free today:

On May 15th in 1955 was Austrias state treaty signed. This was signed by the ‘winner states’ (USA, France, Union of Sowjets (now: Russia), Great Britain) who divided Austria in this time, and the new Republic of Austria. At the 27th of October they decided that in 90 days all the soldiers from the winner states must have left Austria. The 25th of October was the last day in this 90- days- time. ‘The day of the flag’ was celebrated the first time on 25th of October in 1956. The teachers were told that this day must be an unforgetable day for all students, and so there must be an austrian flag on front of each school every year at this day.

The most important treaty for us (we call it Staatsvertrag)- on the right under part you see the sign of Leopold Figl, one of the most important austrians in the last century. This treaty was singed by important men of the winner states, USA, France, UdSSR (CCCP, how the russians write), Great Britain.

We celebrate our national day at the 26th of October, because at this day was decided that, we shall be NEUTRAL for always. This means, that we mustn’t help any country who has war, and we also mustn’t start a war. Of course we are allowed to defend if somebody attacks us. We are also allowed to send soldiers into countries AFTER there was war and help with the building up. (These soldiers are called peace troop)

Since 1967 we have a free day on our national day.

Ah yes:

Smile The oceanic state NAURU also celebrates their national day today.

Nauru- what?

Some information to Narau and this day:

Nauru belongs to Oceania. It is the smalles island state in the world. The emperor of Nauru said, that the population never must get under 1500, when the people there don’t want to die out. But then this happend. The emperor said, when the 1500th Baby will be born, they will fill it up with presents, and this day will be a national celebrating day. Whent his baby, Eidegenegen Eidagar

uwo, was born, they called this Baby Angam- Baby (angam (or añam)= Joy, happiness). It was born on the 26th of October 1932- the Angam day. At the beginning of 2006 they already had 13.287 inhabitants. Narau has a size of 21,3 km² (Austria= 84.000 km²)

So, dear inhabitants from Austria and Nauru- have a happy national day

Smile

Elections- fight

Hej my dear blog readers,

Most of you are not austrians, and because of this you have a bit better time in your countries at the moment i guess. Why? Well, i hope for you that you don’t have elections in about a month, like us. If yes- i feel with you ;)

What is so terrible on election- fighting?

Well, all of our parties which go into this elections want to get as many votes as possible of course. I will give you a short view over all these. I will begin with the strongest party of last elections (and the party which govers us at the moment). This party is ÖVP (Österreichische Volkspartei= austrian party of the folk)- they have a coalition with the BZÖ (Bündnis Zukunft Österreich= Alliance for the Future of Austria). After the last elections the ÖVP was together with the FPÖ (Freiheitliche Partei Österreich= Freedome Partie Austria), but FPÖ divided into FPÖ and BZÖ… this is quite complicated and it was some kind of kindergarten, so, better not to tell too much of this ;)- they just divided and then we got a ÖVP-BZÖ coalition instead of ÖVP-FBÖ. That’s how it is now. But i have the feeling this will change on 1st of October (day of elections)

ÖVP (Österreichsche Volkspartei = Austrian partie of the folk), color: black

Our Bundeskanzler (prime minister or chancellor) is Dr. Wolfgang Schüssel. He is also the ‚boss’ of the ÖVP. He govers this country for 2 periodes now- and the ‘blacks’ how they are just short called here- are also in front at the moment. Actually some interviews with the people in the country show this. We will see if these predictions are right.

Dr. Wolfgang Schüssel, ÖVP

SPÖ (Sozialdemokratische Partei Österreich= socialistic- democratic partie Austria), color: red

The boss of the SPÖ is Alfred Gusenbauer. He is also the leader of the opposition. The SPÖ was the second strongest partie of the last elections and now they finally want to come onto the top of the country after 2 leading periods again. They made some headlines in the last days, because they made a elections- connection together with the LIF (Liberales Forum= liberal forum). I’m curious if this will help.

Alfred Gusenbauer, SPÖ

FPÖ (Freiheitliche Partei Österreich= Freedome Partie Austria), color: blue

The FPÖ was the third strongest partie after the last elections, but this will not be like this again. Like i already mentioned: they divided a year and a half ago into FPÖ and BZÖ and with that they got much weaker. Heinz- Christian Strache is their boss- I’m close to write ‘leader’here- because i’m not really sure if this partie is still okay. They have a very agressive politic- opinion, and they are promoting agaisnt people of abroad. This is just my opinion please- but i tell facts. They also don’t want that EU will grow more- and they are also against joining Turkey to EU, because they want to keep the ‘christian’ EU…

Heinz- Christian Strache, FPÖ

Die Grünen (the greens), color: green [:P]

For the first time the greens have really good chances to come into a coalition- gouverment. They keep good connection and opinions to the two strongest parties SPÖ and ÖVP. I think they also will get more votes this time and get the third position. They are for a better woman- politics (women and men shall get paid the same, more money for mothers who have to get up their kids alone…), they want to go out of the ‘Eurofighter- contract’ (Eurofighters are planes which would cost 2 billion [per plane!!!] and with what out goverment made a contract. These planes are for defending… nobody needs them really, but they made a contract and the greens want to try to get out of this), they want to put more money in education (kindergarten, school, university), enviroment, and progress. The only thing what they can’t promise is, that we have to pay less- but i think this is clear. As you see, i like this party and i have a sympatic opinion ;)- their boss is Alexander van der Bellen.

Alexander van der Bellen, Die Grünen

BZÖ (Bündnis Zukunft Österreich= Alliance for the Future of Austria), color: orange

BZÖ divided 1 year and a half ago from FPÖ. In this time Jörg Haider (also the governour of Kärnten/Koroška/Carinthia) made the dividing and was the boss of them but now Peter Westentaler has the lead. In principal they are the same as FPÖ- but they are their worst ‘enimies’ at the same time. For me this partie is something like Haiders private- party. As i said above, Haider is also the governour of Kärnten (one of Austrias 9 federal states) and there he makes a lot of problems. For example there is of course this silly quarrel with the panels. There are living a lot of slovenians in Kärten and they are enough, that they can get panels for villages in two languages. They want this of course. At the moment the most are just german, but there should be german- slovenian panels. Normally this would be no problem, but Haider makes them! Once he set one panel (the one of Bleiburg- unfortunately i don’t know the slovenain name for it, sorry) 1 meter behind the original place- because then, he said, it is another panel, and so he doesn’t need to listen to the judgement of the trial, which told that all panels in this area must get german- slovenian. Some days ago he made a annouce in some newspapers in which he wrote: “Kärnten wird einsprachig”- which means “Carinthia gets ONE language”- he knowes exactly that there are also slovenians! I don’t have the feeling that Austria can trust this man. I don’t like him and he makes me angry more and more with this shit… sorry, i just can’t stay at a neutral opinion ;)

Peter Westenthaler, BZÖ

Jörg Haider, BZÖ

KPÖ (Kommunistische Partei Österreich= communist partie Austria), color: yellow

Well, i must say i know very, very less about this partie, i even don’t know who is their boss. But i think this will not be so important, because i have the feeling that they will not get so many votes. Communists are not very popular in Austria. But i think i don’t need to tell their motives to you- read Karl Marx ;)

LIF (Liberales Forum= liberal forum), color: no idea :P

They are very weak and alone they would have no chance, but they went into a election- coalition with the SPÖ- i’m not sure if it helps anything…

Matin (Liste Hans- Peter- Martin= list Hans- Peter- Martin), color: white

He has to start with his french name Matin, because it is not allowed to have more than 5 letters on the paper for votes… i wonder why he doesn’t start as HPM then… but okay… he already started once with a list and he was surprisingly good there (it was not such an election how it is now). Hans- Peter- Martin is an austrian EU- polican member and he is a bit strange in my opinion. He doesn’t like politics really (so it seems to me), but he is in there and he also starts in an election. In general i think he has good ideas, but i never would be able to vote for him, because he just seems so unsympathic to me…

Hans- Peter Martin, Matin

So, these are all our parties. Unfortunately i’m not allowed to vote :P I think our goverment will be

Black- green

After the elections- and to be honst: i also hope so.

The greens are my favourite partie (at the moment). I think they have really good opinions and ideas, but they have no idea of governing a country so far- it would be good if the ÖVP will be in a coalition with them, i think this could bring a lot. The ideas and the motivations of the greens and the realistic thinkings and the idea of gouverning of the ÖVP.

We will see- i will tell you about the elections after 1st of October,

Have a nice day

Robbie Williams in Wien

He got it once again! Robbie Williams was great in the Vienna Ernst- Happel- Stadion. I was

there on Friday, together with 5 other girls, my classmates and friends Johanna, Anna and Steffi, and Steffi’s sister Karin, and i really was impressed by te tons of other people who were there. 55.000 people (and the same on Saturday again). Even Robbie had flu, he gave everything. The most funny thing was, when he talked to us at the beginning of the show:

“Hello Viennaaaaaaa- You see, i will tell you a true story now- I was lying in my bed yesterday evening-… alone…”

“ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh”

“Yeah- and i was thinking about this… and you know what- i thought: Das ist scheiße (engl: That’s shit)”-

I think you can imagine, that everybody laughed- his german was very funny ;)

“And now i’m going to tell you a true story… Today in the afternoon- i got sick…”

“ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh”

“Yeah- and the doctor came to my room…”

“ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh”

“Yeah- and he said: Oh Robbie, you are so sick- you won’t be able to be on stage today!!!”

“Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh”

“YEAH!- but do you know what i said? I said-

FUCK YOU DOCTOR!!!!!!”

“Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah”

;)

After a few songs he decided to chose the most disgusting Poster. There was one (kids under 16, close your eyes now Wink) “Would you fuck us for a blow?”

“That’s not correct english- but i understand what you mean!”, he laughed.

Some fans wrote onto their banner: “We came from Brazil to see you!”

“Oh- you don’t need to come here to see me- I will have a gig in Rio soon- you could have saved the flying tickets… the fans don’t need to come to Robbie, Robbie comes to you!”

I don’t know if you ever heard 55.000 people laughing at the same time, but you can believe me, it sounds incredible.

His first songs were great, but the best mood came, when he started with his really great (and older) songs, like Millenium, “Come Undone”, “Strong” or “Feel”. Then all the people sang in the stadion. It was an amazing feeling, and i really wouldn’t want to miss it.

But the most beautiful was, when he got a man onto the stage, after “Rudebox”

“This is my friend Dave”, he said.

Then he got a woman onto the stage. She was Dave’s girlfriend Susie. “And Dave has something to say!”

Then the man went to her, took her right hand and said first:

“I love you”

Then he got down onto his knees and asked her, if she wants to marry him.

I swear you, it was so wonderful, and then Robbie said:

“And now “Angels”- for you two”

The two sat onto the stage during Robbie and everybody sang Angels for them. It was really emotional, and this girl had tears in her eyes. Angels is the best song of Robbie in my opinion, and it was also the best on at this day.

All in all i must say, a really great concert i wouldn’t want to miss the feeling, that we had been there. It was sure worth of every cent i had to pay for it.

And at last, my favourite song of him:

ANGELS

I sit and wait
Does an angel contemplate my fate ?
And do they know
The places where we go
When we’re grey and old ?
‘Cos I’ve been told
That salvation lets their wings unfold
So when I’m lying in my bed
Thoughts running through my head
And I feel that love is dead
I’m loving angels instead

CHORUS:
And through it all she offers me protection
A lot of love and affection
Whether I’m right or wrong
And down the waterfall
Wherever it may take me
I know that life won’t break me
When I come to call
She won’t forsake me
I’m loving angels instead

When I’m feeling weak
And my pain walks down a one way street
I look above
And I know I’ll always be blessed with love
And as the feeling grows
She breathes flesh to my bones
And when love is dead
I’m loving angels instead

And through it all she offers me protection
A lot of love and affection
Whether I’m right or wrong
And down the waterfall
Wherever it may take me
I know that life won’t break me
When I come to call
She won’t forsake me
I’m loving angels instead

And through it all she offers me protection
A lot of love and affection
Whether I’m right or wrong
And down the waterfall
Wherever it may take me
I know that life won’t break me
When I come to call
She won’t forsake me
I’m loving angels instead
